Hello!
My name is Cindy Marie Taren. I’m an American currently living in upstate New York (outside NYC) in an old house with my mom, our dogs, and cat. Teaching and tutoring English has changed my life—there’s nothing more rewarding than helping people communicate effectively and even enjoy the process! I thrive on guiding students in lessons and creating engaging classroom interactions. I welcome serious, committed students who respect my time as much as I respect theirs. New students are always accepted, but please ensure your profile is complete or send me a message introducing yourself. For first-time meetings, I recommend booking just one 30-minute session so we can get acquainted.
I love puttering around the house—gardening, reading, playing with my dog, and soaking up time with family and friends (or Netflix). When I’m not tutoring, you might find me geeking out over local government work or behind a cash register as a part-time supermarket clerk (gotta fund my Cambly addiction, right? 😆). But tutoring here on Cambly? It’s become my favorite adventure. I’ve never felt more energized as both a teacher and a global citizen! Whether we’re debating politics, dissecting books, obsessing over history, or swapping tips on natural living, spirituality, or even beauty routines—I’m all in. (Seriously, I’ll chat about anything except maybe advanced calculus… shudders.) Bottom line: I live for learning and helping others, and I can’t wait to hear what makes you light up!

To make the most of our time together, I’ll start class by asking: “How can I help you today?” or “What would you like to focus on?”—so it’s helpful if you come with a topic, resource, or goal in mind! This could be anything: sharing about your life (work, hobbies, pets, etc.), discussing an opinion, or using one of Cambly’s conversation starters. You’re also welcome to bring your own materials, like homework, business documents, or test prep—I’m happy to adapt! Why? I’ve found students learn best when they lead the content, and I can focus on guiding your language skills. Need ideas? Cambly’s resource library or sites like Engoo.com offer great topics, and I’m always ready to suggest others (grammar, business English, news, etc.). Just ask! A few quick requests to keep class smooth: Kindly avoid joining while driving, eating, or smoking. Place your device on a stable surface (I get motion sickness easily—thank you!). Camera use is appreciated (and required for group classes). Most importantly: This is your time. I’m here to help you explore it in English—and maybe even have fun doing it! 😊
